The sub-project – Port of Kaohsiung Wharf A6 and Hinterland Reclamation Project under ‘Development and Construction Plan for International Ports (2022-2026)’ aims to support the development of the offshore wind power industry. The new heavy-lift terminal (30T/m2) features a total quay length of approximately 580 meters, a water depth of -10 to -13.5 meters, and an 8.5-hectare rear-line site, with a maximum depth of about 150 meters, designated for use by wind power operators.
This project aligns with the sub-project of ‘Development and Construction Plan for International Ports (2022-2026)’ - Port of Kaohsiung Wharf A6 and Hinterland Reclamation Project, aiming to integrate A6 land and the quay line to serve as a base for the assembly of offshore wind turbine substructures and construction of submarine cables, meeting the needs of domestic developers. As this construction forms part of the development plan, it should be evaluated in conjunction with the comprehensive economic benefits of the entire project. Therefore, the anticipated benefits and objectives of this project are as follows:
-
Considering that Kaohsiung Port currently lacks a heavy-duty cargo terminal, this project aims to meet the demand from private enterprises for transporting large-scale equipment and reduce the impact of land transportation on port traffic and lower transportation costs. In the future, the terminal can also serve as a maintenance facility for offshore wind power equipment, contributing to the development of Taiwan's domestic offshore wind industry.
-
To align with energy policy, accelerate offshore wind development and meet urgent industry demands and localization goals, the A6 land and its quay line can be used to build a domestic supply chain for offshore wind projects through the establishment of well-equipped production base and cultivation of professional talents.
