To align with UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, TIPC actively participates in public welfare activities and has even established a Sustainable Development Steering Committee and Sustainable Development Executive Committee in 2023.
The ports TIPC operates and manages handle over 90% of Taiwan's international trade volume. In addition to their core functions, these ports are involved in passenger services, recreational tourism, and other tasks. TIPC not only develops internationally certified eco-friendly ports but also extends its efforts from the sea to the mountains, dedicating itself to safeguarding the endangered leopard cats and Taiwan’s precious land-based ecological resources.
To align with UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promote corporate social responsibility (CSR), Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as TIPC) established a Sustainable Development Steering Committee and Sustainable Development Executive Committee in 2023 to drive sustainability efforts in environmental, social, and corporate governance planning.
Excellent Operational Performance with an Active Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility
The newly formed Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) took over the former port operation and management functions of the four Harbor Bureaus that were affiliated to the Ministry of Transportation and Communication. TIPC Chairman Hsien-yi Lee said that after transforming into a state-owned company in 2012, TIPC operates seven international commercial ports (referred to as Taiwan's Ports Group) and manages two domestic commercial ports. Over the past 12 years, the operating performance has been great, and the revenue reached a record high of NT$ 28.18 billion in 2023.
In response to UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the six focus areas of the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP), TIPC adheres to the “people-first” approach and upholds the principle of “taking from society and giving back to society”. The ports' environmental protection efforts have received international recognition and the entire ports group has received European Eco-Port Certification. In addition, more than 100 sessions of public welfare activities are held annually, accumulating investments exceeding NT$28 million.
Specific Actions to Safeguard the Ecosystem and Foster Marine Literacy and Education
TIPC is committed to creating ecological ports to safeguard the marine ecology with specific actions. Among them, Port of Taichung and Port of Keelung have been accredited as “Environmental Education Sites” for their respective themes: Port of Taichung with its offshore wind power revealing the energy transition process and Port of Keelung with the black kites’ spreading their wings to reveal the exploration of the mysterious balance between ports and the ecosystem. Both ports have successively obtained the Environmental Education Site Certification and become important sites for promoting marine education. TIPC has further developed a diverse range of marine education programs, including field ecological tours, marine biology presentations, marine environmental protection campaigns, and port environment maintenance. Through hands-on participation, the public can gain in-depth understanding of marine ecology and develop a strong awareness of marine conservation.
Moreover, TIPC also expands its reach to marine education, creating the “Marine Education Train” to bring marine education courses into schools. In 2023, over 40 marine education activities were held to teach marine knowledge and develop marine literacy through a fun and educational approach, receiving positive feedback from schools and students and enabling children to better appreciate the ocean and ports as valuable assets to foster a collective responsibility for ocean protection. We also joined hands with neighboring schools and made use of AI and other technologies for the schoolchildren to operate robots to walk on port maps and understand the smart port operations and cargo handling, as well as experience the vision of smart technology and mutual benefit.

To promote marine education and connect smart technologies such as AI, TIPC has planned entertaining and educational activities for children and were well received.
Active Promotion of Local Culture and Resources From Local Chorus to Leopard Cat Rice
The ocean and the land are closely connected, and TIPC's seeds of goodwill have also spread from the ocean to various places. On the sixth anniversary of the establishment of TIPC, Nibun Chorus, composed of senior high school students from Liugui, Kaohsiung, who experienced the Morakot Typhoon disaster, was invited for the first time to visit the port and perform indigenous traditional culture. Since then, TIPC has assisted the chorus in securing resources for international competitions, aiming to increase Taiwan's visibility on the global stage. Beyond promoting local culture, we also aim to offer children unique life experiences and platforms.
The leopard cat is the only remaining native wild cat species in Taiwan, and is also classified as a critically endangered species. In March, 2023, Chairman Hsien-Yi Lee personally led the associates of TIPC to the leopard cat rice field in Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County to participate in the leopard cat rice cultivation, bend over to plant rice seedlings and set up the “TIPC × Leopard Cat Rice” adoption sign in the fields, demonstrating practical actions for ecological conservation. More than 100 days later, TIPC and the teachers and students of Wunan Elementary School in Taichung City harvested the golden, ripe rice ears. The contracted cultivation of 1200 kilograms of leopard cat rice was used as gifts for clients. Through the promotion of the leopard cat rice, we aim to raise the awareness of leopard cats and work together to safeguard Taiwan's valuable ecological resources.

In 2023, TIPC Chairman Hsien-Yi Lee led our associates to take part in the cultivation of leopard cat rice, encouraging everyone to join in the protection of the precious leopard cats.
Advocating for a Caring Corporate Culture, Participating in Social Welfare from Multiple Perspectives
Love is the foundation for the sustainable development of enterprises. TIPC participated in social welfare activities from diverse perspectives, embodying our values of corporate social responsibility. For example, Chairman Hsien-Yi Lee and President Shao-liang Chen led our associates to respond to World Vision's global humanitarian relief operation, 30 Hour Famine, by organizing a one-day hunger experience event and raised 2,794 meals for the Say #ENOUGH Campaign, and all the money raised was donated to World Vision Taiwan. Moreover, TIPC also purchased agricultural products to donate to homeless people, poor families, and groups with disabilities. Every year, we also invite relevant port units to organize blood donation activities. In 2023, more than 1,600 bags of blood were collected. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of operation, Port of Hualien organized a series of activities, including tree planting and beach cleanup, charity summer camp, and charity garden party. Over NT$ 700,000 was raised and donated to Genesis Social Welfare Foundation to spread selfless love and warmth.

To embody the principle of “Putting oneself in the place of another”, Chairman Hsien-Yi Lee and President Shao-liang Chen led our associates in fundraising and participated in the one-day hunger experience event.
TIPC spares no efforts to promote public welfare, continues to spread the seeds of goodwill, and joins hands with local forces to safeguard marine resources and also care for society, demonstrating our social responsibility as a corporate citizen. Starting from small actions and focusing on global sustainable development, TIPC will continue to promote various public welfare activities to make contributions to the sustainable development of the earth.
