From April 8th to 11th , 2025, Seatrade Cruise Global, the premier annual event for the global cruise industry, was held in Miami, Florida. TIPC once again partnered with the Taiwan Tourism Administration, MOTC, to set up a Taiwan pavilion, showcasing the development achievements and tourism strengths of Taiwan's port cluster to the international cruise industry to encourage more cruise lines to discover and expand their presence in Taiwan.
During the exhibition, TIPC arranged meetings with numerous international cruise lines, including Holland America Line, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Carnival Corporation, Seabourn, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Windstar Cruises, Royal Caribbean Group, and Disney Cruise Line, to discuss port-call itineraries and port services. Through TIPC's briefings, many cruise lines gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan's port-of-call options, with TIPC specifically highlighting high-potential ports such as the Port of Taichung and the Port of Anping (Tainan).
At the exhibition, TIPC presented a comprehensive overview of operating conditions and infrastructure progress across Taiwan's port cluster, highlighting key advantages such as port fee reductions and streamlined clearance processes that help lower operating costs and incentivize calls to Taiwan. TIPC also promoted infrastructure development upgrades, including the progressive rollout of shore power at Ports of Keelung and Kaohsiung and cruise terminal modernization, demonstrating concrete actions to expand reception capacity. Construction priorities at individual ports were also presented: facility optimizations at the dual homeports of Keelung and Kaohsiung, a new wharf and cruise terminal at Port of Suao(Yilan), a wharf extension and a new terminal planned for Port of Penghu, and a new wharf construction at Port of Hualien designed for expedition cruise berthing, fully demonstrating Taiwan's multi-port development potential and ongoing investment.
According to data from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), global cruise passenger volume reached 31.5 million in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. While the overall Asian market remains in recovery, Taiwan's cruise market has rebounded rapidly: in 2025, it handled 285 calls and more than 1.15 million passengers, surpassing pre-pandemic level and demonstrating steady growth momentum.
TIPC stated that it will continue collaborating with the Taiwan Tourism Administration, MOTC, and local governments through international exhibitions, direct client visits, port infrastructure upgrades, port fee reductions and incentives, and deeper engagement with global cruise lines, to enhance Taiwan’s visibility in the Asian cruise market and drive tangible port-call results.
