National Award-Winning Transportation Facility Restrooms: Gender-Friendly Restrooms at the Tourist Service Center

:::

In 2024, TIPC participated for the first time in ‘The Best Public Toilet’ evaluation organized by the Ministry of Environment. The company nominated two restrooms for the competition: the ‘Keelung Port Building’ of Keelung Branch and ‘Budai Port Passenger Service Center’ of Kaohsiung Branch. In this highly competitive event, both public toilets were awarded the distinction of ‘Excellence in National Transportation Hub Public Restrooms – Outstanding Award’, marking a significant achievement in TIPC’s efforts to improve public facilities. The award ceremony was held on December 3, where President of Keelung Branch Mars Kao, and Minister of Environment Peng Chi-Ming personally presented the commendation.

Public restrooms are not only a part of daily lives but also an important reflection of a nation’s image. As public demand for high-quality services increases, the cleanliness and comfort of restrooms have become one of the benchmarks for measuring a city’s level of civilization and service quality. For many years, TIPC has been dedicated to maintaining a pleasant restroom environment, actively promoting the standard of ‘clean, dry, and odor-free’. In order to further enhance service quality, TIPC implemented the ‘Commercial Port High-Quality Public Restroom Supervision Program’ from 2023 to 2024, and invited experts to conduct inspections. These evaluations focused on cleanliness, integrity of facilities, and maintenance practices, leading to detailed assessments and targeted improvements.

These efforts are reflected not only in the improvement of hardware facilities but also in meticulous attention to detail. For instance, in terms of design and planning, TIPC actively responds to the need for gender-friendly facilities by setting up a dedicated gender-friendly restroom at ‘Budai Port Passenger Service Center’, demonstrating respect and care for every user. This initiative not only enhances user comfort but also sets a benchmark for modern public facility planning.

In addition, TIPC emphasized that beyond providing high-quality restroom facilities, it also encourages users to work together in maintaining public spaces, fostering the good habit of ‘cleaning up after yourself’, and expressing appreciation to cleaning staff to create a positive cycle of interaction.

The company will continue striving to enhance the quality of public restrooms, moving towards a more user-friendly approach to ensure that every member of the public can enjoy convenient restroom services in a comfortable and respectful environment.
