Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal Honored with 2024 TIBA AWARD Taiwan Outstanding Smart Green Building and System Products Awards - Gold Award for Design

:::

Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal, operated by TIPC, has been honored with the ‘2024 TIBA AWARD Taiwan Outstanding Smart Green Building and System Products Awards - Gold Award for Design’ by Taiwan Intelligent Building Association, highlighting its outstanding smart and sustainable design concept. This award not only affirms the excellence of its architectural design but also showcases Kaohsiung Port’s achievements in advancing smart and green building initiatives. Looking ahead, the terminal will continue to enhance its building technologies to provide an even more exceptional experience.

Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal is a building designed with the concept of smart and sustainable development. In addition to applying for Silver-Level Green Building Label, it has also applied for Silver-Level Intelligent Building Candidate Certificate. Embracing the principles of smart architecture, the terminal integrates an intelligent operation platform along with four major auxiliary modules, including construction management, smart microgrid, facility services, and environmental control, to collect and analyze system-wide data, enabling predictions and early warnings. This significantly enhances the terminal’s operational efficiency while providing a safe and comfortable environment for both work and recreation. The terminal can simultaneously accommodate two 225,000-ton cruise ships and is equipped with 10 boarding gates. It features movable boarding bridges, which can be adjusted according to the type and size of the cruise ships, as well as automated clearance systems to achieve high efficiency with a processing capacity of 3,500 passengers per hour for ports of call and 2,100 passengers per hour for home ports. This thoughtful design not only improves passenger convenience but also ensures smoother port operations, demonstrating the terminal’s strength as an international cruise hub through efficient boarding and clearance systems. The ‘Rhythm of the Sea Plaza’ on the third floor offers a prime seaside viewing and leisure space, allowing visitors to experience the unique charm of the Kaohsiung Port. This feature enhances overall tourism effectiveness along Asia New Bay Area, from the Great Harbor Bridge, Kaohsiung Music Center, Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal, to Kaohsiung Exhibition Center.

The building features the largest 3D curved metal curtain façade on a single structure in Taiwan, with the curved surface volume also ranking as the nation's largest. This uniquely shaped large-scale curtain wall is composed of thousands of glass panels, each with a distinct shape. To minimize high-altitude operation time while ensuring construction progress and quality, the curtain wall was primarily assembled in the factory, with on-site installation kept to a minimum. Each steel pipe was marked with assembly indicators to significantly enhance the precision and speed of construction. The exterior design, resembling the fluid motion of ocean waves, not only earned the 23rd Public Construction Golden Quality Award by the Public Construction Commission of Executive Yuan, but also created a new iconic image of Kaohsiung as Taiwan’s maritime gateway.
