In 2024, Hualien was severely affected by natural disasters, beginning with a powerful earthquake followed by a typhoon. These events dealt a significant blow to the region’s tourism industry and economy. Many tourist attractions and essential infrastructure were damaged, leading to a halt in local commercial activities. In response to this crisis, the government and relevant agencies quickly took action to revitalize Hualien’s tourism sector and encourage more people to travel domestically.

In support of the Ministry of Transportation’s Hualien Tourism Revitalization Plan, TIPC actively participated by organizing a series of initiatives aimed at boosting local tourism and economic recovery. One of the most prominent events was the ‘Let’s Go to Hualien – Walk for Wellness’ revitalization walk, which attracted over 1,500 participants including employees, their families, and public from across Taiwan. The event took place at Hualien Pacific Park, a scenic location known for its stunning coastal views. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to walk in the embrace of nature while engaging in healthy exercise. To further support the local economy and promote regional culture, the organizers prepared a variety of locally made souvenirs, allowing attendees to bring home unique products that showcased the charm and craftsmanship of Hualien.

In addition, TIPC collaborated with the Hualien County Athletics Federation to host the 2024 Hualien Port Cup Carp Lake Marathon, drawing runners from across the country, with a total participation of 1,500 people. The event featured both 10K and 5K race categories, catering to professional athletes as well as casual runners, providing everyone with a suitable challenge. With a total prize pool of NT$293,000, the race not only motivated participants but also drew significant attention from tourists and media outlets. To further stimulate local spending, the organizers distributed NT$300 revitalization vouchers to participants, encouraging them to shop at local businesses and thereby contributing to Hualien's economic recovery.

Such events go beyond mere entertainment. They effectively contribute to both social and economic revitalization. Local residents play dual roles as service providers and beneficiaries, resulting in improved life. Driven by these initiatives, Hualien’s retail, food and beverage, and hospitality industries have gradually returned to a prosperous state. The successful execution of these activities has not only attracted visitors from across Taiwan, but also enhanced Hualien’s visibility and influence on the international stage.

Through the implementation of these revitalization initiatives, Hualien has not only reaped short-term economic benefits but also laid a solid foundation for long-term development. Looking ahead, as more similar events are held, Hualien is expected to become one of Taiwan’s most popular tourism and sports destinations, continuing to achieve long-term prosperity in all aspects.
