The 2023 ESG report released by the Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC), after submission to the Singapore-based Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards (ASRA), has been honored with the ASRA Asia’s Best Sustainability Report (Public Sector) Silver Award. This internationally prestigious award gives important recognition to TIPC’s ongoing efforts in the realm of sustainability and represents an important milestone in the company’s work to achieve sustainable operations.

The non-profit ASRA program, organized by Singapore-based CSR Works International, regularly convenes a top-notch judges’ panel filled by experts from the government, NGOs, academia, the media, and industry that independently reviews entries and selects Asia’s best-of-the-best each year. The objective of this program is to recognize the outstanding sustainability efforts of corporations across various industries, encourage disclosure, and increase transparency in reporting. ASRA is one of the world’s best-known and most widely respected awards for sustainability reporting. ASRA Founder and Chairman of CSR Works Rajesh Chhabara, remarking on the most recent group of ASRA recipients, shared how proud his entire organization is with the quality of sustainability reporting done by award winners. Their efforts, he notes, evidence the high level of social responsibility upheld by these companies. The award recipients serve as benchmarks and role models for promoting corporate sustainability in Asia.

The 17 ASRA winners represent companies operating across a wide range of industries in 13 countries. Each awards category includes category gold, silver, or bronze award. TIPC faced stiff competition from counterparts in Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan, ultimately earning the silver award. This honor was made all the more meaningful by the fact that this was the first-ever ASRA awarded to a Taiwan-based enterprise.

TIPC’s 2023 ESG report was posted to the ESG section of the company’s official website in September 2024 (https://www.twport.com.tw/esg). In addition to the ASRA, the report and TIPC’s sustainability initiatives have been recognized by Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA); GLCT ESG Logistics Sustainability Gold Awards for Innovative Applications and Energy Utilization; 104 Job Bank Best Employer Brand Award (Best Retention category); HR Asia’s Best Companies to Work for in Asia and DEI Awards; the Executive Yuan’s Integrity Award (Outstanding); the Harvard Review’s “Ding-Ge Award” for Digital Transformation; a Taiwan Sustainability Action Award (TSAA, bronze) for SDG8; a Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award (TCSA) for Innovative Growth Leadership; a GLCT ESG Transportation Sustainability Gold Award, and other honors.

TIPC Chairman Hsien-Yi Lee remarked that TIPC’s operations, governance, carbon reduction efforts, corporate responsibility activities, employee welfare / benefit policies, and port-city prosperity initiatives all align closely with related public policies and priorities as well as take into consideration issues of concern to port stakeholders. Furthermore, he noted, his company’s ESG reports provide a regular platform for disclosing the results of ongoing sustainability initiatives and communicating with others. Looking ahead, TIPC will continue keeping close tabs on international sustainability trends as well as key topics related to climate change and biodiversity in order to continue making substantive, positive progress toward achieving low-carbon, resilient port operations that benefit all stakeholders.
