The Ecoports Tools and certification scheme has been developed in Europe from 1993 and introduced from 1996 by a group of ESPO member ports to assist ports in the implementation of environmental legislation in a cost effective way, based on practical solutions. All ports faced the same environmental problems and the same daily task to find cost effective solutions. Ecoports delivered from its start basic standards and certification to assist in this task and also to make the implementation of environmental legislation in seaports competition neutral. The standards are compatible with the ISO 14001 environmental quality management system but dedicated to the specific roles and responsibilities of ports and port authorities.  (Reference: //www.ecoslc.eu/about)
TIPC is actively promoting the green port activities to increase its reputation and visibility in the world. Port of Kaohsiung was certified as EcoPort in 2014 and Port of Keelung and Taichung were certified in 2015. Port of Taipei and Hualien are expected to obtain the EcoPort certification by end of 2016.
Port of Kaohsiung also participated in Green Port Award System (GPAS) pilot project, which is hosted by APEC Port Service Network. We hope to share with APEC economies with our experiences and innovative practices as a green port leadership commitment.
