The Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) has announced plans to develop water-recreation and leisure space adjacent to Mitsui Group’s new Outlet Park, which is currently under construction at the Port of Taichung. This new space will further enhance the port’s allure to visitors and tourists while complementing Mitsui’s new Outlet Park complex, creating a new spotlight destination for leisure, shopping, and fun in central Taiwan.

Construction on the 18-hectare Outlet Park complex, being built by Japan’s Mitsui Group, officially commenced on August 21st of last year (2017) and has proceeded forward at a brisk pace. As of March 2018, work has finished on first-floor floor, concrete walls, and beam emplacement, and the project remains on schedule for the Outlet Park’s grand opening by year’s end.

The Port of Taichung Outlet Park will benefit greatly from Mitsui’s extensive experience managing large-scale malls and shopping centers in Japan and elsewhere and its close, cooperative relationships with over 2,000 internationally recognized name brands. Commercial space in the Outlet Park is already 80% leased by high-end international brands, first-time outlet retailers, and top domestic brands. Also, apart from the park’s giant scenic Ferris wheel, there will be plenty of fun entertainment and activities for people of all ages, providing Outlet Park visitors a world-class shopping, recreation, and entertainment experience that is sure to please and satisfy every need!

The Port of Taichung notes that plans are moving forward to create new water-recreation space along the north side of the Mitsui Outlet Park that will eventually be integrated with the outlet complex. Retail shops and spaces in the surrounding area are also gradually reorienting toward tourism. A new public art installation entitled “Mazu Crossing the Sea” and the landscaping and greenification of port parks are further adding to the atmosphere of fun and leisure that will welcome future visitors to the Port of Taichung’s “secret garden”.

Port of Taichung authorities further note that, while remaining an international commercial port, the port will become an increasingly bright spotlight for tourism and business. The soon-to-be-opened Outlet Park will become the anchor of a shopping and entertainment district featuring new hotels and entertainment / leisure facilities, with easy access via the Shuanggang Light Rail and Greater Taichung Shanshou MRT lines and direct connections to Wuqi Fishing Harbor, the Gaomei Wetlands, and Dajia Jenn Lann Temple.
TIPC, working to grow regional prosperity by creating and linking venues and eagerly promoting the Mitsui design concept “Enjoy the Voyage of Style”, looks forward with great anticipation to the opening at the end of this year (2018) of Taiwan’s first integrated ocean travel, life fashion, and leisure-recreation destination.
