Formal lease documents on a 19,980m2 outdoor parking lot in front of the Port of Taichung Passenger Terminal were signed on July 6th, 2020 between the Port of Taichung, TIPC and the private company San Zhong Gang Outlet Co., Ltd. This leased lot will be developed during Phase 2 work on Mitsui Outlet Park Taichung for customer vehicle parking.

Mitsui Outlet Park Taichung, Taiwan's first harbor-based outlet mall, held its grand opening on December 12th, 2018. The mall property covers 18 hectares and features nearly 32,000m2 of retailer space, 170 retail store units, and a 60m-tall coastal-view Ferris wheel. The spacious parking facilities at the park are currently designed to accommodate over 2,000 passenger cars. In 2019, the park registered 8 million visitors. Anticipating even better to come, Mitsui is pushing ahead with phase two development plans. Going forward, Mitsui will build Phase 2 outlet mall facilities on one section of the current outdoor parking lot, adding space for 50 new retail store units and creating around 200 new permanent jobs. Completion of Phase 2 work should help the outlet park exceed the much-anticipated milestone of 10 million visitors annually.

Port of Taichung President Sean Lu stated that, once operational, this new phase of investment and development by San Zhong Gang Outlet Co., Ltd. is expected to fuel additional new tourism development efforts at the port, increase visitor numbers, stimulate new business activity in the area, and add significant new forward momentum to the Port of Taichung.
