The Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) will hold the “Asia’s New Bay Area Yacht Marina International Investment Presentation” this afternoon (March 14th) at Pier 15 in the Asia’s New Bay Area. This presentation will kick off efforts to secure private-sector investors’ interest in building new yacht berth facilities in the water area adjacent to Wharves 13~15. There are about 25 domestic and foreign yacht industry related enterprises and investors currently scheduled to attend, along with Kaohsiung City Deputy Mayor Li-ming Hsu and TIPC Chairman Hong-mou Wu, giving strong wings to this landmark investment project at Asia’s New Bay.

The investment project covers 3.4ha of water area, ranging in depth from -6.0 to -8.0m. The waters in this sheltered area are exceptionally stable. Tidal range is minimal (approx. 0.45m) and typhoon-driven waves peak below 0.3m. The project area can accommodate at least 160 yacht berths, suitable for the berthing needs of small, medium, large, and super yachts. The investment project also covers 1.1ha of adjacent land area, offering convenient access to Haibian Road and the area’s roadway grid; moreover, the Glory Pier light rail station is just meters away.  Multiple, convenient transportation options and attractive water conditions make this an exceptionally lucrative venue for growing yacht business as well as developing myriad tourism and leisure opportunities, building the foundations for a future, world-class yacht marina district at Asia’s New Bay.

TIPC will also commence work to build Dagang Bridge, the nation’s first horizontally pivoting swing bridge, at Basin Dock No. 3. Capturing the aesthetic lines of shells and frolicking dolphins in an overall structure that resembles a streamlined yacht from the future, the new bridge will link the maritime themes of the port’s Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center and Asia’s New Bay Area and echo the port’s expansion into the yacht and leisure sectors. The bridge will measure 109.5m in length from end to end, including a cable-stayed span of 97.5m. Time of rotation from full open to full closure will be 3 minutes. The bridge will accommodate up to 550 pedestrians and is expected to be a popular route for tourists and cyclists, who may use the bridge to connect easily from Basin Dock No. 3 and Love River Bay into Penglai Terminal, the Pier-2 Art Center, Hamasen Railway Cultural Park, cruise ship terminal facilities, and other waterfront destinations in the area.

As part of efforts to promote the yacht marina district at Love River bay, TIPC and the Kaohsiung City Government’s Marine Bureau are joining together in recruiting business interest and investment in the 3.4ha parcel of water next to Wharves 13~15 and the 1.1ha of adjacent land. Additionally, TIPC will initiate the planning and construction of critical wave resistance facility. The development of infrastructure and facilities related to future marina land and water operations will be handled by the selected investor. The investor-selection process is expected to wrap up in August of this year (2018) and operations should get underway in December. When the Dagang Bridge is completed at the end of this year, it will integrate the yacht marina with other waterfront areas in the Basin Dock No. 3 area. Together with the Port of Kaohsiung Passenger Terminal building (scheduled for completion in 2019) and in tandem with other world-class Asia’s New Bay Area attractions like the Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center, Kaohsiung Main Public Library, and Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, these new spotlight attractions will be integral components in Kaohsiung City’s waterfront tourist and leisure lifestyle district. The district will be a highly accessible, sea and land recreation and vacation magnet for visitors to the city from Taiwan and abroad. From the landscaped waterfront path that crosses the yacht district, visitors will be able to enjoy beautiful sea and land views, catch a ride out onto the open sea, and enjoy the relaxing, slow pace of life that typifies southern Taiwan and resonates with the stylish elegance that increasingly defines the waterfront of today’s Asia’s New Bay Area.
