The 2019 Taipei Port FTZ Business Recruitment Seminar will be held in the afternoon of October 22nd (2019) at the Taipei Port Administration Building. The seminar is part of an ongoing effort by Port of Keelung, TIPC to further establish the ‘outsourced contract manufacturing’ business model in its free trade zones (FTZs) and to deepen connections between Port of Keelung and Taipei Port FTZs and the manufacturers and industries in surrounding areas.

The seminar, supervised by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, hosted by the Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC), and co-organized by New Taipei City Government’s Economic Development Department (EDD-NTCG) and the Taipei Port Container Terminal Company (TPCTC), encourages and welcomes the participation of small-and-medium manufacturers based in the Tucheng, Xinzhuang, Linkou, Shulin, and Ruifang industrial parks. Port of Keelung Deputy Director Ching-Shih Liang will present on the topic “A comparison of FTZ and bonded zone operations” and EDD-NTCG Section Head Hsin-chun Tsai will elucidate on the issues of “New Taipei City industry assistance policies and policies affecting private bids on public land.” Next, the seminar will shift to Taipei Port’s Container Terminal, where TPCTC Manager Wei-lun Sun will introduce terminal operations and the current status of business recruitment before leading a tour of the expansive new N-5 logistics warehouse. The schedule is designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of the ‘outsourced contract manufacturing’ business model as practiced at Taiwan’s FTZs as well as of New Taipei City-administered land under Taipei Port jurisdiction that is currently available for business recruitment activities.

In a statement, the TIPC noted that the government has made free trade zones and the “within national territory but outside customs territory” framework policy priorities in recent years in order to boost the competitiveness of Taiwanese industries in the global supply chain. It is hoped that this seminar encourages related industries to establish a presence in port FTZs in order to build stronger supply-chain synergies and stimulate outsourced contract manufacturing opportunities. This is essential to raising the value of FTZ operations, fueling the growth of domestic industry sectors, creating new job opportunities, injecting further dynamism into the national economy, further developing the domestic economy, and ensuring clear benefits for the government, the public, and industry.
