In support of the water recreation component of the ‘Ten Flagship Projects’ promulgated by ROC Premier Lai during his tenure as Tainan City Mayor, the Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) is currently developing Taiwan’s largest international-class pleasure yacht marina at Anping Port. This open-bid investment project, covering 23.18ha and 5.83ha of land and water area, respectively for a total area of 29.01ha, is being developed in two phases (A and B). The bid for Phase A, covering a total 12.74ha (9.74ha of land and 3.0ha of water), was won by Argo Conglomerate on November 16th, 2017. Plans call for the low-density development of this area that includes the installation of a 500m waterside walking path and the development by Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts (Singapore) of the nation’s largest world-class seaside resort hotel complex. Site excavation and basic utility installation work is currently underway. The official groundbreaking and Banyan Tree contract-signing ceremony is scheduled for March 30th. Pier construction and installation of the waterside walking path are scheduled for completion by the close of this year (2018) and all work on Phase A should be finished by the end of 2020.

Phase B of the pleasure yacht marina at Anping Port covers 13.44ha of land and 2.83ha of water for a total of 16.27ha. TIPC expects to issue a public call for bids in July of this year and to sign related contract instruments in early 2019. Target bidders include businesses involved in yacht marina operations, yacht provisions and repairs, yacht clubs, hotels, outlet malls, shopping centers, department stores, meetings and conferences, exhibitions, business services, retailing, food and beverages, and travel / recreation services. Looking further ahead, Anping Port’s pleasure yacht marina is expected to spur the broader development and diversification of the region’s water recreation industry and give significant new momentum to the tourism areas north of Anping Port. Additionally, TIPC is developing public bids for the development of reclaimed land at Yueya Bay and promoting tourism / recreation opportunities in the Sankunshen area as part of efforts to link the new yacht marina with the adjacent coastal corridor and create a comprehensive leisure and recreation destination for Tainan residents.
